Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 9:30am -11:30am. Held at the YWCA in Darien. Sibshops are pedal-to-the-metal celebrations of the many contributions made by brothers and sisters of kids with special needs. Sibshops acknowledge that being the brother or sister of a person with special needs is for some a good thing, others a not-so-good thing, and for many, somewhere in-between. They reflect a belief that brothers and sisters have much to offer one another — if they are given a chance. Sibshops meetings are a mix of games, new friends and discussion activities. The Sibshop curriculum is used throughout the United States, Canada, Croatia, England, Ireland, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Guatemala, Mexico, and Argentina.
Darien parent, Beth Reagle, currently Coordinator of Behavioral Supports of the Greenwich Autism Program will be presenting this first informational meeting and discussion on the benefits of sibling support. Additionally, this will be the start of a year long sibshop program through STEPS Darien. Further information on state resources for siblings and additional sibshops throughout the state will be provided.
